Hey friends ๐ As you may have noticed, the name is Sara Beth Abbey! Yes, the offical name is misleading — I do request that you put forth the effort to tag the Beth along with the Sara, if you would be so kind. Where to begin? I've spent the majority of my 16 years here in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Church, Young Life, youth group, Bible/book studies, volunteering, music jams, and other things of the sort would fill my planner is I used one. My extracurriculars tend to take priority, and though I do pretty well in school, I simply have great difficulty convincing myself that schoolwork deserves more attention than things of eternal value.
Anyway, rollin' with music jams, I love to play and sing! My guitar has my heart, my piano rents it occasionally, and a borrowed ukulele temporarily trumps all. Mmm, and djembe. God has really used this passion for music, and I have opportunities to minister via leading worship, and recently, by providing comfort and hope during hard times. It's been a tough year at my school — we've lost a coach, a teacher, and two students to unexpected deaths. Taylor (who you will meet shortly) and I have been able to play and sing at candle-light vigils, students/family gatherings, and recently, a funeral. Though it's not easy, it's been awesome to be able to minister to people in this way. God works in many ways, and I've certainly seen how beautiful a means music can be. I'm so excited about doing the same with you all in Matamoros!
So how did I end up on this trip? you may ask (or I may ask for you.) Well, last summer I was lucky enough to be able to spend 9 days in la Republica Domnicana with my youth group, where we worked on the local Young Life camp and ministered to the locals. Those 9 days in the DR were the best 9 days of my life! Despite the appealing opportunity to return with my youth group again this summer, I've had a hankerin' for something… larger scale. Thus began the process of internet and soul searching. Enter: Adventures in Missions. Amid the plethora of options, AIM seemed to have just what I was hoping to find. It looks like an amazing organization, our small team is going to be tight, I love Spanish and Mexican people, FIVE WEEKS BABY, and the cost doesn't cause one to swoon. So here I am, and I am so ridiculously excited! I'm excited about Mexico and I'm excited about where my heart for bringing hope the lost and broken will lead me throughout the course of my life.
CONGRATULATIONS, you've made it through the longest bio yet! Surely I'll think of some important nugget of information to later add, but this seems to hit the highlights ๐ I cannot wait to see how God will use us! Love you guys already.

This little boy stole my heart in the DR. We were playing catch with a lemon he got from the tree in his yard ๐
